There She Goes
He knew the first time they met, he loved her.
This blonde haired, blue-eyed, fair skinned girl
Who he held so tight, but not too tightly, afraid to let her go
From the moment he saw her, she had stolen his heart.
Through the years their relationship grew
As relationships do.
There were many belly laughs and jokes,
Many smiles, hugs and kisses too.
And just as much disagreements and stubbornness.
Words said in anger with much regret,
Tears shed, compromises met.
Apologies made and forgiveness given
With plenty of “I’ll try better” and “I love you”.
For her, loves came and went
But for him, his love for her eternal
For this blonde haired, blue-eyed, fair skinned girl
Who he would hold tight, but not too tightly, willing to let her grow.
Now he watched as she gathered the last of her things
Checking and double checking her bags
Fussing about making sure she didn’t forget anything.
As she reached for her last bag, he pulled her close
This blonde haired, blue-eyed, fair skinned young lady
And held her tight, but not too tightly, not wanting to let her go.
With a heavy heart he kissed her forehead as he usually did
“Please, you have to let me go. You knew this day would come.”
He knew she was right, it was her time to soar.
“Do you have everything? You know if you need anything just let me know”
She nodded as she pulled away and grabbed her last bag.
As he watched her make her way to the escalator
He felt a hand slide into his and a head rest on his shoulder.
She took a step forward but stopped, turned to face them
This couple that held her tight, but not too tightly, willing to let her grow.
Though they weren’t showing it,
She knew they were breaking a little bit inside.
She dropped her bag and ran back to them,
Hugged them both tight, but not too tightly, ready to let them go.
“Love you, Momma.”
“Love you, old man.”
They shared one last embrace together before she went her way.
Waving their goodbyes and blowing her kisses until she disappeared.
Both standing together silently sharing the same thought,
There she goes. . .
